SIMON WRIGHT Talks To Drum-Line.net (Video)

July 5, 2013

Evil Ed Nijjer, Canadian editor for Drum-line.net, conducted an interview with Simon Wright (DIO, AC/DC, UFO, DIO DISCIPLES) backstage after the Seattle concert from the the Geoff Tate-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE. Lucky fans were thrilled when Simon joined Brian Tichy on stage for a lengthy encore set featuring both iconic drummers on side-by-side kits.

When asked by BlastzoneOnline.tk in an August 2011 interview why he left AC/DC, Wright said, "Well, I had been in the band for about eight years and I began to get complacent about things. Don't get me wrong — they are an incredible band, as we know, but I needed to expand on my drumming more. Branch out a bit. I think they noticed this in me — I guess it happens — so it was time to move on. I will never have enough thanks for the amazing journey they took me on. They are great people and a killer band."

DIO DISCIPLES, the group which pays tribute to legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW, DIO, HEAVEN & HELL) and is fully supported by Dio's widow/manager, Wendy Dio, last months completed a South American tour. In addition to Wright, DIO DISCIPLES' current lineup includes Tim "Ripper" Owens (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH) on vocals, Oni Logan (LYNCH MOB) on vocals, Craig Goldy (DIO) on guitar, Bjorn Englen (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) on bass and Scott Warren (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL) on keyboards.
